If you live here, you already know the Lagoon story. You've told it to every out-of-town guest. The five acres of turquoise water and white sand are the postcard, and they'll stay the postcard. What's shifted in the last twelve months is quieter and closer to your driveway: the Café changed hands, a third amenity center opened, and the food scene at the Highway 380 exit finally stopped being a punchline. The center of gravity for a Windsong Ranch weeknight is no longer only at the beach.
The Café Is A Taqueria Kitchen Now
The address at 1001 Windsong Parkway South hasn't moved, but what comes out of the kitchen has. The Windsong Ranch Café is now under the ownership of Ricardo Araiza, the local favorite behind Ricardo's Taqueria, and the menu reflects it. This matters more than a routine ownership change. The prior operator ran a European-leaning breakfast concept out of the same room. The new one built his reputation in Prosper on tacos and morning plates that lean Tex-Mex, and he's carrying that forward alongside the specialty coffee program.
The practical implication for residents is scheduling. Current hours run Monday through Wednesday 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Thursday 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Friday 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. That's not a full-service dinner house. It's a morning-and-midday room, which is how most residents were already using it. The change is that a walk-up lunch is now a genuine option instead of a compromise.
THE BRIDGE Rewired The Weeknight
For years, the answer to "where's the event?" was the pavilion at THE COMMONS, right by the resort-style pool and the two-acre lake. That's still true for pool-side gatherings and the summer programming that anchors the calendar. What's new is THE BRIDGE, described by the association as a thoughtfully designed indoor-outdoor gathering space featuring a multipurpose event building, catering kitchen, fireplace lounge, scenic lawns, and an amphitheater overlooking a tranquil pond, all created to host fitness classes, cultural events, and community celebrations.
Read that again with a resident's eye. The catering kitchen is the tell. It means the space was engineered to host things that weren't easy to host before: sit-down dinners, cooking classes, private ticketed events, cultural programming that needs a real back-of-house. If you noticed more evening events landing on the calendar this year that weren't tied to the pool deck, this is why.
The lifestyle team runs a full annual calendar out of these three centers. In prior years the association reported 81 events including Windsong Ranch's signature event—the Windsong Wine and Music festival held each fall. Add a purpose-built event building with a kitchen and that number has room to grow without stepping on pool hours.
The programming itself is still coordinated by a full-time, on-site Community Lifestyle Director, who coordinates both resident only and monthly public events, Lauren Stephan. The person hasn't changed. The room she has to work with has.
The Everyday Amenities You Underuse
A short list of what's on the property that residents routinely forget until a guest asks:
- StoryWalk around the Commons pond. A rotating book of the month laid out along the path, designed for walking with kids who can't sit still for a full read-through.
- Urban beehives at THE COMMONS, professionally maintained by Alvéole. Not decorative. Actual working hives.
- Disc golf through Doe Branch. Weave through the scenic nature of Doe Branch while playing 18 holes of disc golf. Free, quiet on weekday mornings.
- Three tennis courts and four pickleball courts. The pickleball count is the one that surprises new residents.
- Lap pool at THE COMMONS, separate from the resort pool. If you've only used the zero-entry side, you've been swimming in the crowded one.
None of this is new. It's underused, which is a different problem.
The 380 Corridor Finally Caught Up
The old complaint from Windsong residents was that a decent dinner meant a drive south to Frisco. That's changing on a specific timeline worth knowing.
At Gates of Prosper, Urban Cookhouse opened its doors in August 2025 at the Gates of Prosper (1151 S. Preston Rd.), marking the Alabama-based chain's first Texas location. The relevant detail for residents isn't the chain's origin. It's the operator: a farm-to-table concept run by James Zemlock, a Frisco restaurateur with three decades in hospitality and connections to Grimaldi's Pizzeria and The Capital Grille. The menu features wood-fired meats, fresh salads, and daily specials like grilled pork tenderloin and smoked turkey combos. That's a serious kitchen, not a franchise drop-in. Weekend brunch is where they're leaning.
Downtown Prosper has the bigger swing coming. 1902 is confirmed for summer 2026 at 209 W. Broadway in downtown Prosper. Chef Amy DiBiase is heading up the kitchen, and it'll include Mary Ann's Speakeasy upstairs. An American fine-dining room with a speakeasy above it, three miles from your front gate, is the kind of place residents have been asking about for years. If your standing Friday reservation has been Legacy West, keep an eye on the opening date.
The rest of the pipeline is more utilitarian. Zaxby's, the Georgia-based chicken chain, is headed to Prosper with construction set to break ground in April 2026, with a specific location still to be announced. And the town has approved a mixed-use development at Dallas Parkway and Frontier Parkway that will bring additional restaurant and retail pads, though those tenants haven't been named.
Inside Windsong Marketplace itself, the anchor tenants haven't changed: a Kroger Marketplace, Chick-fil-A, Panera Bread and many more dining options. The shift is that the Marketplace is no longer the ceiling for what's walkable or a five-minute drive away.
A Saturday That Uses The Whole Community
If you want a specific test of everything above, try this routine on a Saturday between May and September when the association operates Saturday hours:
- 8:30 AM. Coffee and a breakfast plate at the Windsong Ranch Café. Take it outside if the patio is open.
- 9:30 AM. Walk the StoryWalk loop around the pond with kids, or take a disc golf round through Doe Branch without them.
- 11:00 AM. Lap pool at THE COMMONS before the afternoon crowd. The resort pool fills up around noon.
- 1:00 PM. Lunch either back at the Café or a short drive to Urban Cookhouse at Gates of Prosper.
- Late afternoon. The Lagoon. Paddleboard, kayak, or claim a stretch of sand. This is the postcard for a reason.
- Evening. Check the association calendar for whatever the lifestyle team has running at THE BRIDGE. If nothing's scheduled, the firepit past the resort pool overlooks the two-acre lake and the amphitheater, and it's where the perfect place to enjoy a colorful Texas sunset lives.
That's five distinct amenities and one nearby dinner without ever getting on the Tollway.
