Star Trail's Fall Is Happening Along Frontier Parkway

October 8, 2026

Star Trail sits just north of US 380 on the Dallas North Tollway. For most of the past year, that has meant concrete trucks, wall crews and lane closures on Dallas Parkway. The tollway extension is the biggest project anywhere near the neighborhood, and NTTA's own schedule says it won't carry traffic past Prosper until late 2027.

Look a few miles up the map, though, and Frontier Parkway is already picking up the things a household uses every week. A smoothie bowl shop opened there in September. A pediatric practice is set to open there this fall. Frontier Park, the Town's biggest park, hosts the Town's annual harvest fair on October 17. The Town's newest bond list puts money into both the park and the road. For Star Trail residents, this fall has more to do with Frontier Parkway than with the highway.

The Tollway Next Door Opens in Late 2027

NTTA's Phase 4 project runs the Dallas North Tollway 13.7 miles north of US 380. Phase 4A, which ends at FM 428, is scheduled to open in late 2027. Phase 4B, which runs north toward the Grayson County line, has no opening date yet.

NTTA's most recent progress report, dated May 2026, lists this work near Prosper:

  • Bridge decks are complete for the whole stretch from US 380 to Light Farms Way.
  • Mainlane paving is underway from First Street to Light Farms Way.
  • Wall, earthwork and drainage work is continuing.
  • A tie-in lane is being built on the Dallas Parkway frontage road, between the future entrance and exit ramps in both directions. NTTA expects that work to last through 2026.

That last item affects daily drives the most. The frontage road is the road Star Trail uses now, and crews will be working on it for the rest of the year. In August, there were daily left-lane closures on Dallas Parkway between First Street and FM 428 in both directions. A closure at Dallas Parkway and FM 428 followed from August 17 through August 22. Those dates have passed. NTTA has not released a newer progress report since May, so its traffic-update map is the place to check for current closures.

Another project sits just south. The Town is widening First Street from two lanes to a four-lane divided road between the tollway and Coleman Street. As of late September, the water line was in, utility relocations were underway, and a temporary detour lane was open at the railroad crossing. The $26.15 million project runs from spring 2026 to fall 2027. That means both the tollway and First Street are scheduled to finish in the second half of 2027.

What Opened Along Frontier, and What's Next

The new businesses in this part of Prosper are mostly on Frontier Parkway and Preston Road, a short drive from the tollway work.

Business Address Status
Vitality Bowls 201 W. Frontier Pkwy., Ste. 40, at the southwest corner of Frontier and Preston Opened Sept. 1
Jimmy John's 480 S. Preston Rd., Ste. 100 Opened Sept. 9
Graceville Pediatrics 500 W. Frontier Pkwy., Ste. 110 Targeting fall 2026
CAVA The Gates of Prosper, 1101 S. Preston Rd., Ste. 10 Space renovation expected early 2027, no opening date yet

Vitality Bowls serves smoothie bowls, wraps, paninis and salads. That makes it an easy stop between practice and dinner. Graceville Pediatrics plans to offer in-person visits and telehealth. A pediatric office at 500 W. Frontier would sit a few hundred addresses down the road from the smoothie shop. Both are on the Prosper and Celina border, so Frontier Parkway now serves residents on both sides of the town line.

CAVA is still months away. A Community Impact report from September 18 says the space needs renovation early next year before the restaurant can open. Plan on 2027. The Gates of Prosper, which also has a Walmart Supercenter, DICK'S Sporting Goods, Texas Roadhouse and Chili's, is about three miles from Star Trail.

The Town Is Spending on Frontier Too

Prosper's bond lists show the same pattern. The multi-year capital program in a Town Council presentation dated August 11, 2026, lists bonds recently approved under the Series 2026 label. Three items touch Star Trail directly:

  • $2 million for construction on Frontier Parkway between Legacy and the Dallas North Tollway
  • $1 million for Frontier Park improvements
  • $800,000 for design and land estimates on Legacy Drive from Star Trail to Legacy Middle School

The presentation doesn't say what the park money will build or when work will start. It confirms the money is set aside, not that crews are on site.

The Town's 2025 bond election project list also includes two items on roads Star Trail drivers use. One is an $8.5 million repair of the northbound tollway frontage road from US 380 to Frontier Parkway. The other is $10 million to build the two north-side lanes of Prosper Trail between Legacy and the tollway, finishing that stretch at four lanes. Neither item has a published construction date. Even so, the frontage road between US 380 and Frontier is on the Town's repair list, separate from NTTA's work.

October 17 at Frontier Park

Frontier Park, at 1551 Frontier Parkway, is Prosper's largest community park and sports complex. A CheckoutDFW guide describes it as about 80 acres, with soccer fields including synthetic turf, baseball and softball fields, lacrosse, a catch-and-release pond, a pedestrian bridge, a 1.7-mile paved path, playgrounds and a seasonal splash pad. That guide dates to 2021.

On Saturday, October 17, the Town holds its free Celebrate Prosper Hometown Harvest Fair there from 4 to 8 p.m. The fair includes hayrides, a pumpkin patch, a petting zoo, a cornhole tournament, a vendor marketplace and live music. As of October 1, the Town hadn't announced the full music lineup.

This year the fair adds a food drive with Children's Hunger Fund Prosper. Bring at least three items from the group's Food Pak Shopping List and you get a voucher for a free hot dog meal from Savory Kitchen. Check the list before you shop so your donations match what the group needs.

The Rest of the Calendar

The other big fall events are downtown, so plan on driving south. In date order:

  1. Oct. 6, 6–9 p.m. National Night Out, with free neighborhood block parties at several Prosper and Celina locations. Check the Town's website for sites. The same evening, 1902 plans to open the first-floor dinner bar and dining room at 209 W. Broadway St., serving steaks and Tex-Mex fusion. The rooftop, brunch, lunch and the second-floor speakeasy are set for later. The opening date has already moved once, from late September.
  2. Oct. 10, 1–5:30 p.m. Prosper on the Plaza: Red River Rivalry Fan Fest on Broadway Street, with a game watch on a giant screen, a DJ, lawn games and food.
  3. Oct. 17, 4–8 p.m. Hometown Harvest Fair at Frontier Park.
  4. Oct. 26, 6–7 p.m. Special Needs Halloween at the Prosper Community Library, 200 S. Main St., with accessible trick-or-treating and non-food treats.
  5. Nov. 21, noon–4 p.m. Prosper on the Plaza: Friendsgiving, with bluegrass, food trucks and a petting zoo. The Town asks people to reserve a free seat.
  6. Dec. 5, 3–7 p.m. The Christmas Festival at Town Hall, 250 W. First St. Your route there may run along the First Street widening, so leave a few extra minutes.

Back Home in Star Trail

Inside the neighborhood, Star Trail's main community center at 1851 Star Trail Parkway has party rooms, an outdoor lounge with a fireplace and screen, three pools, two grill pavilions, a one-acre playground, and lighted tennis and pickleball courts. A second amenity center adds pools, a playground, a putting green, pickleball and a seated firepit. The community also has two Town of Prosper parks with playgrounds and basketball courts. The lighted courts and the firepit stay usable as the evenings get cooler and darker.

The public events listing for the community center showed no upcoming events when we checked. That listing may not include resident-only events, so check with the HOA for fall programming.

Road projects and new openings like these also change how buyers see a location. If you want to know how the tollway timeline and the new businesses on Frontier Parkway affect your home's value, Rebecca Lee Group can walk you through it. Get Your Free Home Valuation.
